About Stefan Umdasch

Stefan Umdasch (born in Munich in 1963) studied Industrial Design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna under Paolo Piva, for whom he initially worked on various projects. In 1994, he set up his own studio ‘Stefan Umdasch Design’ in St. Pölten, Austria, with a focus on product and interior design.

Interior Design
In terms of interior design, Stefan Umdasch Design primarily works on projects in public and semi-public spaces, such as business premises, restaurants and corporate entrance areas.

Product Design
The studio's second focus is on product design, with designs used by reputable manufacturers such as Riedel, Wittmann, Swarovski and Backhausen. Correspondingly, their portfolio extends from lighting and glass products to home accessories, carpeting and furniture. Some of the designs, such as the ‘Ultra’ decanter for Riedel, or the ‘Wedge’ upholstered chair for Wittmann, have since established themselves as classics of contemporary product design.

Stefan Umdasch has been awarded the Spazio Design Award (1996) and the Red Dot Design Award (1998).
